On April 4th, 2025, Charitable Flights hosted an educational event for a local homeschool group located in Flint, Mi!

This event was made possible thanks to Avflight Flint for hosting this tour, Insight for allowing the attendees to explore their Hawker airplane, and our volunteers for guiding and educating this local homeschooling group through the facility!
This large homeschool group with 30+ families enjoyed exploring 5 stations the Charitable Flights team staged through out Avflight's facility. At each station a volunteer guide gave an educational presentation and answered questions for the children and families.
Station #1
Each group started off in the FBO lobby. The groups got to see the waiting area where passengers and pilots mingle and wait before a departure. Next, they traveled through the areas that are designated to pilots for flight preparation. The groups were able to see the maps, charts, and tools the pilots use to prepare for a flight, this was a great opportunity for our volunteer, Fran, to share with the families what areas of learning pilots utilize the most when preparing for a flight, like math and geography.
Next up was the pilot lounge! The families got to see where the pilots go to rest and sleep in between trips.
Station #2
After touring the pilot lounge and lobby area, the group entered station 2 for an aviation history presentation, and to build their own toy airplane! The families learned about the origins of aviation and key events throughout history that took us from terrestrial earth to space!
Station #3
With toy airplanes in hand, the families moved on to station 3 where they were able to tour the small airplane hangar! Our volunteer, Grace, led the families through this station and shared with them her background as a local flight instructor, interesting facts about small airplanes, answered questions, and told some classic airplane jokes!
Station #4
Once the families were finished exploring the small airplane hangar,
Captain Jack led the groups into the hangar that holds larger aircraft, like private jets. In this hangar the families learned more about Charitable Flights and larger aircraft, plus the children were given an opportunity to see how well their toy airplanes could fly! Congratulations to Hadly whose airplane flew the farthest!
Station #5
As the grand finale of the tour, the families were able to board a private jet and explore where the passengers sit, and the cockpit where the pilots fly the airplane! Captain Seth guided the families through this station, walking them through the features of the airplane and answering questions. After a brief presentation in the passenger seats, the children were allowed to explore the cockpit with Captain Seth! The baggage compartment housed goody bags filled with stickers, fun facts, a drink, and a snack for each child.
This was a great event, thank you to the homeschool group for spending the day with us! We love sharing our passion for aviation, and hope that we inspired these future aviators!
